Mario Paoluzi from iCustodi on Mount Etna stopped by the shop today to share his wines. We tried a Carricante from the east side of the volcano, then several Nerellos from the north.

Mario discussed the alborello training system, which trains each vine to grow as a "little tree" with a controlled canopy that allows light and wind to pass through the vine.
His red wines come from the unique Moganazzi Contrada, or lava flow, with its own unique volcanic soil type. Moganazzi is special because it is windy, which keeps the vines growing just right.

Wines of Piemonte
with Kyle Boatright from Country Vintner

The hills of Piemonte are crossed by the Po and Tanaro Rivers. The multitude of microclimates gives way to a unique spectrum of wines that range from the rich and bright Arneis-based wines, to the full-bodied, powerful Nebbiolos of Barolo and Barbaresco. At this tasting we explored the full breadth of Piemonte wine...

Wines of the Loire
with Kendall Koehler from Elite Wines

The diverse, unique wines of the Loire Valley refresh the palate and stir the soul. The Loire River is treacherous to sail, and along the banks you'll find caves and misty vineyards etched into the tuffeau, the rolling hills of Sauvignon Blanc in Sancerre, and the castles of Chinon.

In this tasting we explored a terroir study of Sauvignon Blanc by comparing
Sancerre side-by-side with Quincy. Then we tried a dense, rich Chenin Blanc, followed by a Loire-indigenous grape, Grolleau. We finished with a Cabernet Franc celebration from two iconic Loire producers, Thierry Germain, and a surprise producer.
