Last Friday (December 29th) we finished out the year with a special tasting of sparkling wines, hosted by Kendall Koehler from Elite wines. Here were the wines:
Sparkling Wine for Auld Lang Syne Conca d'Oro Prosecco (Italy) bright, value bubbly from Italy, made from the Glera grape This wine had a zesty mouthfeel, with just a hint of sweetness. The antique bottle shape also makes this a pretty interesting bottle of bubbly.
Cremant d'Limoux (France) ...this place has been making sparkling wine longer than most other regions (long before Dom Perignon made wine!) When we popped the Cremant d'Limoux it was ultra crisp and laser-like in it's focus and bright acidity. We instantly wished we had a dozen fresh-shucked oysters...
Mader Cremant d'Alsace (France) pinot blanc and chardonnay make up this blend from Alsace Mader's exquisite cremant was the value of the night, delivering serious quality for the price.
Gonet-Medeville Champagne (France) premier cru Blanc de Noirs Champagne for New Years! And we treated the crowd to a proper Champagne-- the blanc de noirs had a slight pink tinge (a beautiful, jewel-like color), and tasted rich and concentrated, with a zippy finish.
